Nature girls…

I have known these adorable sisters for a couple of years now, since, lucky us, the older sister is my kids’ absolute favorite babysitter (when she’s not at college!)  Now she is home and I had the honor of photographing these gals at Stony Run, an area that is so close to my house and so perfect for photos, yet I had never been there!  Thanks so much for introducing me to this gorgeous spot!

Beautiful kids, beautiful day at the Arboretum…

I had so much fun with this adorable brother and sister – though we have known their family for years, this is the first time I have had the chance to really play with these guys and get to know them – they are just so sweet and silly, I had an absolute blast photographing them.  (Great job on the wardrobe, by the way, Jennifer!)  Here is a sneak peek of our session…

Canvas Rocks….

I just received a 20×24 canvas for a favorite client of mine – I love how it turned out so much I have to show it off!  (Please ignore the mess on my kitchen table :)

I hope more clients order these – they just make such a great addition to a room – turning your life into your art – I love it!

Two Princesses and a Jedi…

So when my awesome long-time gym and preschool friend asked me to do a session with her kids before their family moves to Texas this summer I had mixed emotions – I am so sad to see this family go, the mom is just so cool and easy to talk to and the kids are sweet and full of life – my kids love playing with them at the gym.  But on the other hand, I was excited to send them off with some special images representing their time here in Charm City – the photo below was the first idea that I had, though the costumes were their idea (and they work!)  I just love how this turned out….

I had so much fun hanging out with these kids – they are so sweet and energetic without being a bit difficult..we had a blast!

I call this one, “Backbend at Sunset”  – what nice light we had!

I wish I could take credit for this “Abbey Road” idea – it was my friend’s idea and I LOVE it!

But all in all, I think I like this one best….

Thanks again, guys, for being so sweet with me!  I hope you have a wonderful transition to Texas!

Sneak Peek at my week…

Well I have certainly ventured into new territory this week!  Usually when I have a session with a baby, or 1, 2, or 3 year old, they get lots and lots of time to get comfortable with me, we build up a trust, and the photos flow from there…  But this year I just could not turn down the chance to take the photos for Olivia’s wonderful “mommy and me”-type group.  The photos had always been taken indoors by a more classical school photographer (In my experience this did not work well for any less-than outgoing one or two year-olds!)

Long story short – I am shooting over 100 kids in the next week or so – and a big shout out to my Aunt Melanie who is acting as the kids’ surrogate Mama this week while I work these long hours!  She made us lasagna and gumbo and more to come tomorrow.  I am truly a very lucky niece.

I am only just finishing up Monday’s photos, and I have some (random) highlights to show!  Sorry if your child is not featured, I will have them all up on my site as soon as I can possibly manage!  Also, if your child is here, I often will be offering you more than one photo to choose from, so don’t assume “this is it!”   I am very pleased with how they are turning out, and I have to say that I have really enjoyed meeting so many wonderful kids and parents in the course of taking these photos – I am very lucky to be a part of such a supportive and kind community (who all just happen to have incredibly cute kids!).

i heart faces contest – dramatic black & white

I had a really hard time choosing for this week’s challenge – there are a couple of photos of Olivia that I’ve taken recently that I think would be nice contributions for this category – but I keep coming back to this one – I took this using my 50mm f/1.4 lens and only window light inside Cinderella’s castle at Disney World as we were waiting for her “dinner with the Princesses” to begin – here she is holding the wishing star the waiter had just given her and she is watching Belle sign autographs for some little girls at another table.  I love how this is so shadowy and moody, since it is lit only by (castle!) window light… Her face is nervous, but you can tell from her princess dress and crown how excited she is to be there…

Spring is (almost) here!

I saw this yesterday when I went to scout out the local arboretum for locations – how hopeful to see a little bud on an empty, end-of-winter tree.  I can’t wait to have sessions at this place, it is so big and beautiful that we may never run out of new backgrounds!  I plan a whole post on locations this week – so watch out for that!

Also, if you want to schedule a Spring session, please contact me soon – I only have a limited number of time slots and they are filling up fast!

Beautiful Baby!

When I got the call for this session with a 2-month-old, I must admit I was a little nervous.  Most photographers fear this age, since 8-week-olds or so are notoriously unpredictable!   I have heard stories from other photographers of babies this age who cry the entire time, are too excited to sleep, yet aren’t really smiling yet – but, ever the optimist that I am, I pushed forward, and scheduled a session with this lovely little baby girl…

Am I glad I did!  Besides the fact that she is absolutely beautiful, she slept, she cuddled, she smiled, she cried (a little) – she was a dream.  Her parents were also great people, I really enjoyed my time with this family that clearly has so much love for one another.  I took so many photos that I just adore, I want them each to be perfect – so as I continue to work on the processing – here is a sneak peek of some early faves!

This one gets me teary…

Look at her holding that head up!  Just amazing for a baby her age!

Dad – you may be right about getting those royalties… BabyGap should be calling any day….what a beauty!
